Shankar started his career with the Indian Air Force and after serving 24 years, took voluntary retirement and joined the IT Industry where he served in various senior positions in India and overseas. He joined the board of trustees in 2014 and is functioning as an Honorary Executive Director. He is also the Trustee and Executive Director of Sankara Health, Education & Charitable Trust and Shri Sankara Kripa Educational & Medical Trust, Kanchipuram.
